EXBERRY® plant-based colors
Sustainability report 2025
Driving a healthier future for people and the planet
Preface
We take sustainability seriously. As a family-owned company, we think long term – ensuring we will always be able to deliver high-quality EXBERRY® colors that allow our customers to create more natural, eco-friendly products. We are proud to reveal the latest developments in this sustainability report, which details the work we are doing to meet our increasing responsibilities as a market leader in plant-based colors.
Our sustainability strategy is designed to ensure GNT Group is fit for the future.
GNT has grown significantly as a company in recent years, and in 2025 we continued our expansion across all regions and product types. That growth was supported by the introduction of new industry regulations, from the U.S. FDA’s efforts to phase out petroleum-based dyes to a new official standard for Coloring Foods in China.
While great for business, the rising demand for natural colors did put new pressure on supply chains throughout the industry. The introduction of tariffs in the U.S. made life more difficult for many in the ingredient business as well. However, thanks to our long-term planning, resilient supply chain, and the commitment of our team, we have been able to navigate these challenges with minimal issues.
Throughout it all, we have maintained our rigorous sustainability standards – and we were delighted to be awarded a Platinum medal for our sustainability performance by EcoVadis. With improvements in areas including resource use, ethics, and risk management, our overall score has increased to 86 out of 100, ranking us among the top 1% of companies in the food manufacturing industry. We also committed to the United Nations Global Compact in 2025, aligning with its standards on human rights, labor, environment, and anti-corruption.
Our commitment to the highest sustainability standards remains undiminished, and as the company grows and the broader landscape shifts, we have taken action to make sure our targets reflect the times.
We carried out a new double materiality assessment to assess our priorities in 2025. It was developed with inputs from internal and external stakeholders, including some of the world’s leading food and beverage brands. Several of our most important material topics remain unchanged, such as climate change adaptation, human rights and working conditions, and the circular economy. Others material topics are new, including water management on fields, data security, and Diversity, Equity & Inclusion.
Based on the new analysis, we have updated the targets we set out in 2021 to make sure we meet the moment and cement our role as the leader on sustainability in the food coloring industry. We will be concentrating on responsible and reliable growth, placing a special emphasis on resilient supply chains in these uncertain times.
The details of our updated plans can be found in this report along with information about the progress we made last year. There were many successes across our environmental initiatives and beyond, but there are areas for improvement, too. One of these is accidents at our factories in 2025, and we are taking strong and decisive action to address this.
This report provides insights into all the work we are doing to enhance our operations. It is backed by clear and transparent data and shows the many ways in which we are supporting food and drink manufacturers in reaching their own sustainability goals.
Times are changing, but our customers can always rely on us to do the right thing. That means strengthening our supply chains, treating our people and planet with care, and staying fully committed to responsible growth.
